Infectious Disease Surveillance (IDS) in Cambodia
Nurse in Cambodia

PHRplus is supporting new interventions that link TB and HIV/AIDS programs in Cambodia. Due to rising numbers of TB/HIV co-morbidity, the close collaboration between the two programs has been identified as a priority by the Ministry of Health (MOH) as well as donor groups. As a result, the Cambodian MOH is currently piloting TB/HIV interaction activities in four provinces- Battambang, Phnom Penh, Banteay Mean Chey, and Sihanoukville.

To support the interaction between the two programs and to address an expressed need for monitoring and documenting the pilot interventions, PHRplus is providing technical assistance to support: 1) the direct use of TB/HIV co-morbidity surveillance information (for planning and routine decision-making), and 2) the use of data regarding what works/does not work in TB/HIV interventions to improve them. This process of monitoring, learning, and improvement will be communicated: 1) across the four provinces (to learn from other pilot provinces 2) to central and local levels 3) to provinces where the TB/HIV interventions will be expanded, and 4) to other countries in the Asia Near East region.

Ultimately, the products expected as a result of this work include: evidence based TB/HIV delivery models that can be scaled up, a final set of key TB/HIV indicators that measure co-morbidity and the interaction of clients between these two programs, and knowledge on marginal resource requirements for scaling up TB/HIV interaction interventions elsewhere.
